The diocese of Joliet in Illinois was on December 11, 1948 by Pope Pius XII. built with the Apostolic Constitution Ecclesiarum circumscriptiones from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Chicago and the dioceses of Peoria and Rockford . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Chicago as a suffragan .
