The Diocese of Erie ( Latin : Dioecesis Eriensis ), located in the USA , was separated from the Diocese of Pittsburgh on July 29, 1853 and established as an independent diocese.
1949 still had 153,691 Catholics (20%) in 123 parishes with 199 diocesan priests , 103 religious priests and 915 religious sisters, the 25,724 km² large diocese grew to 227,162 Catholics (26%) in 126 parishes with 225 diocesan priests, 14 religious priests and 23 deacons 459 nuns.
The diocese includes the areas of Erie , Crawford , Mercer , Venango , Forest , Clarion , Jefferson , Clearfield , Cameron , Elk , McKean , Potter and Warren .
Erie is a suffragan of the ecclesiastical province of Philadelphia .
