Lawrence Thomas Persico (born November 21, 1950 in Monessen ) is Bishop of Erie .

Life

Lawrence Thomas Persico studied philosophy at the Saint Pius X Seminary in Covington, Kentucky, and theology at the Saint Vincent Seminary in Latrobe. He was ordained deacon on June 8, 1976 . The Bishop of Greensburg , William Graham Connare , ordained him priestly on April 30, 1977 in the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral in Greensburg . After pastoral work, he completed a licentiate degree in Canon Law at the Catholic University of America . In 1989 he was appointed Chancellor of the Diocese of Greensburg by Bishop Anthony Gerard Bosco ; he was also pastor of the parish of Saint James in New Alexandria. Pope John Paul II appointed him papal honorary prelate in 2005 . Shortly afterwards, he was appointed vicar general in Greensburg, moderator of the diocesan curia, as well as the episcopal delegate for the clarification of sexual abuse in the diocese. He served two terms as vice director of the Pennsylvania Catholic Conference . He has been a member of the Canon Law Society of America since 1993 .

In 2010 Lawrence Thomas Persico was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem by Cardinal Grand Master John Patrick Cardinal Foley and invested in the order on October 2, 2005.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Erie on July 31, 2012 . The Archbishop of Philadelphia , Charles Joseph Chaput, OFMCap , ordained him episcopal on October 1 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Lawrence Eugene Brandt , Bishop of Greensburg, and Donald Walter Trautman , Former Bishop of Erie.
