The Roman Catholic Diocese of Corpus Christi ( lat. : Dioecesis Corporis Christi ) is in the United States located Roman Catholic diocese based in Corpus Christi , Texas .
history
The diocese Corpus Christi was on August 28, 1874 by Pope Pius IX. established from cessions of territory of the diocese of Galveston as the Apostolic Vicariate Brownsville . On March 23, 1912, the Apostolic Vicariate Brownsville was raised to the diocese by Pope Pius X and renamed the Diocese of Corpus Christi . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of San Antonio as a suffragan . The diocese of Corpus Christi was on July 10, 1965 parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Brownsville . Further assignments took place on April 13, 1982 to found the Diocese of Victoria in Texas and on July 3, 2000 to found the Diocese of Laredo . On December 29, 2004, the Diocese of Brownsville was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston as a suffragan.
