The Diocese of Great Falls-Billings was established on May 18, 1904 by Pope Pius X. from cession of territory of the Diocese of Helena as the Diocese of Great Falls . On February 14, 1980, the Diocese of Great Falls was renamed the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings .
The Diocese of Great Falls-Billings is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon as a suffragan .
