history
The diocese Rapid City was on August 4, 1902 by Pope Leo XIII. Established from cession of territory by the Diocese of Sioux Falls as a diocese Lead and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis as a suffragan . On August 1, 1930, the Diocese of Lead was renamed the Diocese of Rapid City .
