The Archdiocese of Atlanta ( Latin Archidioecesis Atlantensis , English Archdiocese of Atlanta ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church .
History and present
The US Archdiocese of Atlanta was created on July 2, 1956 through a division of the Savannah-Atlanta Diocese and in 1959 had 24,414 Catholics (1.4%) in 26 parishes with 31 diocesan priests , 78 religious priests and 174 religious sisters .
On February 10, 1962 raised to the archbishopric , and thus detached as a suffragan from the Archdiocese of Baltimore , it received the dioceses of Charleston , Charlotte , Raleigh and Savannah to suffragan.
With its 55,521 square kilometers, the archdiocese comprises a total of 69 counties in northern Georgia .
In November 2018, the Archdiocese published a five-page list of priests who had been credibly accused of sexual offenses .
