The Diocese of Springfield ( Latin Dioecesis Campifontis , English Diocese of Springfield ) is a in the United States located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Springfield , Massachusetts .

history

The Diocese of Springfield was on June 14, 1870 by Pope Pius IX. Erected with the Apostolic Constitution Ex commissi Nobis from cession of territory by the Diocese of Boston . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Boston as a suffragan . On January 14, 1950, the Diocese of Springfield gave parts of its territory establishing the Diocese of Worcester .
