The Diocese of Las Cruces ( Latin : Dioecesis Las Cruces ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church in the United States with its seat in Las Cruces , New Mexico .

It includes the ten southern counties of the state of New Mexico: Hidalgo , Grant , Luna , Sierra , Doña Ana , Otero , Lincoln , Chaves , Eddy, and Lea .

history

Pope John Paul II founded it on August 17, 1982 from cessions of territory from the Diocese of El Paso and the Archdiocese of Santa Fe , to which it was also subordinated as a suffragan diocese.
