The Roman Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls ( lat. : Dioecesis Siouxormensis , Engl. : Diocese of Sioux Falls ) is one in the United States located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Sioux Falls , South Dakota .

history

St. Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls

The diocese of Sioux Falls was on August 12, 1879 by Pope Leo XIII. established from the cession of territory by the diocese of Saint Paul as the Apostolic Vicariate Dakota . The Vicariate Apostolic Dakota gave on November 10, 1889 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Jamestown .

On November 12, 1889, the Vicariate Apostolic Dakota by Leo XIII. raised to the diocese and renamed the diocese of Sioux Falls . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis as a suffragan . The Diocese of Sioux Falls gave up on August 4, 1902 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Lead .
