The Roman Catholic Diocese of La Crosse ( Latin Dioecesis Crossensis , English Diocese of La Crosse ) is a in the United States located Roman Catholic diocese , based in La Crosse , Wisconsin .

history

The diocese of La Crosse was on March 3, 1868 by Pope Pius IX. established from cessions of territory by the Diocese of Milwaukee . On February 12, 1875, the Diocese of La Crosse was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Milwaukee as a suffragan . The diocese of La Crosse gave up on May 3, 1905 parts of its territory to establish the diocese Superior . Another assignment of territory took place on December 22, 1945 to establish the diocese of Madison .
