The Diocese of Steubenville ( Latin : Dioecesis Steubenvicensis ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church based in Steubenville , Ohio .
history
The diocese was founded by Pope Pius XII. founded on October 21, 1944 from the diocese of Columbus . It is a suffragan of the Cincinnati Metropolitan Diocese .
The first bishop, John King Mussio, founded the St. John Vianney Seminary and the Franciscan University of Steubenville and the Steubenville Catholic Central High School. The diocese significantly supports the expansion of the former Gill Hospital, today's Trinity Medical Center.
The Camaldolese have settled in the diocese area with a hermitage .
