The Roman Catholic Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend ( Latin Dioecesis Wayne Castrensis-South Bendensis ) is in the United States located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Fort Wayne , Indiana .
history
The diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend was on January 8, 1857 by Pope Pius IX. built from cessions of territory by the diocese of Vincennes as the diocese of Fort Wayne . On October 21, 1944, the Diocese of Fort Wayne gave parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Lafayette in Indiana . Another assignment took place on December 10, 1956 to establish the Diocese of Gary . On May 28, 1960, the Diocese of Fort Wayne was renamed the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend .
The diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Indianapolis as a suffragan .
