Joseph Gregory Dwenger
Joseph Gregory Dwenger CPpS (born April 7, 1837 in Saint John's near Minster , Ohio , † January 22, 1893 ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Fort Wayne .
Life
Joseph Gregory Dwenger was raised by missionaries of the Precious Blood after the untimely death of his parents and joined their religious community . On September 4, 1859, the Archbishop of Cincinnati , John Baptist Purcell , bestowed the sacrament of ordination on him .
Pope Pius IX appointed him bishop of Fort Wayne on February 15, 1872 . The episcopal ordination received his Archbishop John Baptist Purcell on April 14 of that year; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Covington , Augustus Maria Toebbe , and the Bishop of Detroit , Caspar Henry Borgess .
