Augustus Maria Bernhard Antonius Johannes Gebhard Toebbe (born January 15, 1829 in Meppen , † May 2, 1884 in Covington , USA) was a German Roman Catholic clergyman and from 1869 to 1884 second Catholic Bishop of Covington .

Life

Augustus Maria Többe was in Emsland born and emigrated to the United States , where he in 1854 on the feast of the Exaltation of Archbishop John Baptist Purcell for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cincinnati for priests ordained was. Until 1866 Toebbe was the pastor of the German St. Philomena Congregation in Cincinnati.

On September 24, 1869, Pope Pius IX appointed him second Bishop of Covington. On January 9 of the following year, the Bishop of Columbus , Sylvester Horton Rosecrans , donated him episcopal ordination . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Fort Wayne , John Henry Luers , and the Bishop of Louisville , William George McCloskey .

Toebbe died at the age of 55 and was buried in St. Mary's Cathedral in Covington. He was later reburied in St. Mary's Cemetery in Fort Mitchell .
