The Archdiocese of Cincinnati ( Latin : Archidioecesis Cincinnatensis ) is an archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church based in Cincinnati .
On June 19, 1821, Pope Pius VII separated it from the Bardstown diocese (now the Archdiocese of Louisville ) and established it as an independent diocese. Subordinate to the Archdiocese of Baltimore as a suffragan, there were some areas on March 8, 1833 to establish the Diocese of Detroit . After it had given up some areas again on April 23, 1847 to found the Diocese of Cleveland , it was raised to an archbishopric with a metropolitan seat on July 19, 1850 itself . In addition, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati ceded on March 3, 1868 territories to establish the Diocese of Columbus . The archdiocese now covers 19 counties in the southwest of the state of Ohio .
