Mister Ed is an American comedy series directed by Walter R. Brooks about a talking horse .

Overview

The series was first broadcast on CBS television between 1961 and 1966. The stars were Mister Ed , an intelligent, talking horse, and its owner, the architect Wilbur Post (played by Alan Young ). One of the reasons for the entertaining effect was that only Wilbur heard the horse speak (because he was the only one Mr. Ed considered "worthy" to speak to). Mister Ed became a television hit worldwide, and in 1963 the show won a Golden Globe for best television show. The theme song for the series was sung by composer Jay Livingston himself.

The other characters in the series were Wilbur's patient wife ( Connie Hines ) and her neighbors: the Addisons ( Larry Keating and Edna Skinner ) until 1963 , then the Kirkwoods ( Leon Ames and Florence MacMichael ).

Mister Ed got his speaking voice from Allan Lane , when the horse sang the voice of Sheldon Allman was used . In Germany, Mister Ed was spoken by Helmut Krauss . The horse Mister Ed portrayed was actually called Bamboo Harvester , was born in California in 1949 and died in 1968. His trainer for the series was Les Hilton . Another horse that was used as Mister Ed in public relations activities died in 1979.

The series' pilot, entitled The Wonderful World of Wilbur Pope , was initially independently produced and, after being revised, aired in January 1961. After that, CBS bought the show and began broadcasting it regularly in October 1961. As a special guest star on 22 April 1962 was in the 25th episode of the second season , Clint Eastwood Meets Mister Ed , who was then already from the series Rawhide known Clint Eastwood to see. Other guest stars on the series included George Burns , Leo Durocher , Mae West and Jon Provost , who was also the lead actor on the series Lassie . The 143rd and final episode aired on February 6, 1966.

Parody and remake

The series was parodied in 1997 by British comedian Harry Enfield on BBC television . Mister Ed has been changed to Mr. Dead , "the talking corpse".

In 2004, Fox was planning a remake of Mr. Ed with Sherman Hemsley speaking to Mr. Ed , starring David Alan Basche as Wilbur and Sherilyn Fenn as Carol . A pilot was shot, but has not yet aired following the suicide of screenwriter and producer Drake Sather.
