Allan Lane
Allan "Rocky" Lane (actually Harry Leonard Albertshart ; born September 22, 1909 in Mishawaka , Indiana , † October 27, 1973 in Woodland Hills , California ) was an American actor .
Life
Lane's family moved from his birthplace to Grand Rapids , where he grew up. After finishing school, he played at Notre Dame football , then joined an acting troupe from Cincinnati that also appeared in New York - at which time he took on his stage name - and also starred in more than 20 films between 1929 and 1932. He did not return to the screen until 1936 and began his career as a western actor, although he did not appear in the first work of this genre until two years later. From 1940 he played for the Republic Pictures in successful serial . King of the Royal Mounted , Daredevils of the West and The Tiger Woman . This was followed by six films in a series in which he played no fixed character; In 1946 he became the studio's new Red Ryder , whom he impersonated in seven films. This was followed by his most famous series, the Rocky Lane films named after him, of which thirty-nine had appeared by 1953. Since the beginning of the series in 1947, Eddy Waller played alongside him as the sidekick "Nugget Clark" in the increasingly cheaper episodes.
Lane continued his career in television series as a guest star and starred in smaller roles on the big screen. In 1961 he ended his career in front of the camera; his voice was heard until 1966, which he lent in the series Mr. Ed of the title character, a talking horse, in all six seasons. Lane's name (and pictures of him) were also used in a successful comic book series.
Lane has been married twice, most recently to fellow actor Sheila Ryan . His death from bone cancer was hardly noticed at the time.
