The Roman Catholic Diocese of St. Augustine ( lat. : Dioecesis Sancti Augustini ) is in the United States located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Jacksonville , Florida .

The diocese of Saint Augustine was on January 9, 1857 by Pope Pius IX. established from cession of territory by the diocese of Savannah as Vicariate Apostolic Florida . On March 11, 1870 the Vicariate Apostolic Florida was by Pius IX. with the Apostolic Constitution Quo catholico nomini raised to the diocese and renamed the diocese of Saint Augustine . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Baltimore as a suffragan . The diocese of Saint Augustine gave on May 25, 1958 parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Miami . On February 10, 1962, the diocese of Saint Augustine was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Atlanta as a suffragan. The diocese of Saint Augustine gave up on March 2, 1968 parts of its territory to establish the dioceses of Orlando and Saint Petersburg . On March 2, 1968, the diocese of Saint Augustine was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Miami as a suffragan. Another assignment of territory took place on October 1, 1975 to establish the diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee .
