The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle ( lat. : Archidioecesis Seattlensis ) is in the United States located Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Seattle , Washington .
history
The Archdiocese of Seattle was on May 31, 1850 by Pope Pius IX. built from cession of territory by the Diocese of Walla Walla as the Diocese of Nesqually and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Portland in Oregon as a suffragan . On September 11, 1907, the Diocese of Nesqually was renamed the Diocese of Seattle . The Diocese of Seattle gave on December 17, 1913 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Spokane . Another assignment of territory took place on June 23, 1951 to establish the diocese of Yakima .
On June 23, 1951, the Diocese of Seattle was by Pope Pius XII. with the Apostolic Constitution Dominici gregis raised to the archbishopric.
