The Missionaries of the Holy Spirit ( Latin : Missionarii a Spiritu Sancto , Spanish : Misioneros del Espíritu Santo ) are a male, Catholic religious order . According to the regulations of canon law , it is composed as a congregation of priests under papal law . Members of this community add the letters M.Sp.S. on.

history

The Congregation was on December 25, 1914 in Tepeyac , near Mexico City , from the time the Marist belonging to French missionary Félix Rougier ( 1859 - 1938 founded priestly with the aim of promoting vocations). Rougier followed the suggestion of the mystic Concepcion Cabrera de Armida . On December 25, 1914 , José Ramón Ibarra González , Bishop of the Archdiocese of Puebla de los Ángeles , entrusted Rougier with the first two candidates for the order (a priest and a seminarian).

The " Decretum laudis " was issued on December 12, 1931, and the community received its final approval on December 12, 1939.

Assignments and dissemination

The Missionaries of the Holy Spirit maintain seminaries and houses for priests and devote themselves to all tasks connected with the priestly service, also in the context of pastoral care. Special emphasis is placed on spiritual accompaniment, the management of retreat houses and vocational pastoral care.

The Order has most offices in Mexico , but it is also present in Chile , Colombia , Costa Rica , Italy , Spain and the United States . The seat of the Generalate is in Mexico City.

As of December 31, 2009, the congregation had 57 branches and 362 members worldwide, 245 of whom were priests. The superior general is Fr. Torre Medina Mora Fernando.
