The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Mobile ( lat. : Archidioecesis Mobiliensis ) is in the United States located Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Mobile , Alabama .
history
The Archdiocese of Mobile was on August 29, 1825 by Pope Leo XII. from cession of territory of the Diocese of Louisiana and the two Floridas as Vicariate Apostolic Alabama and Florida established.
The Apostolic Vicariate of Alabama and Florida was raised to a diocese on May 15, 1829 by Pope Pius VIII with the Apostolic Constitution Inter multiplices and renamed the Diocese of Mobile . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Baltimore as a suffragan . The diocese Mobile gave on July 3, 1850 parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Savannah . On July 19, 1850, the Diocese of Mobile was subordinated to the Archdiocese of New Orleans as a suffragan. The diocese Mobile was renamed on April 30, 1954 in Diocese Mobile-Birmingham . On June 28, 1969, the diocese Mobile-Birmingham was divided into the dioceses of Birmingham and Mobile. The Diocese of Mobile gave on October 1, 1975 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee .
On July 29, 1980, the Diocese of Mobile was raised to an archbishopric by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Sacrorum Antistites .
