The Diocese of Wichita ( Latin Dioecesis Wichitensis , English Diocese of Wichita ) is a Roman Catholic diocese located in Kansas in the United States , with its seat in Wichita .

history

Pope Leo XIII. founded the Diocese of Wichita on August 2, 1887 from territory of the Diocese of Leavenworth . On May 19, 1951, it lost part of its territory in favor of the establishment of the Diocese of Dodge City .

The diocese of Wichita includes the counties Allen, Bourbon, Butler, Chase, Chautauqua, Cherokee, Cowley, Crawford, Elk, Greenwood, Harper, Harvey, Kingman, Labette, Marion, McPherson, Montgomery, Morris, Neosho, Reno, Rice, Sedgwick, Sumner, Wilson, and Woodson of Kansas State.
