Eugene John Gerber

Eugene John Gerber (born April 30, 1931 in Kingman , Kansas , USA , † September 29, 2018 in Wichita ) was an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Wichita .

Life

Eugene John Gerber was the son of Cornelius John and Lena Marie (Tiesmeyer) Gerber. He first studied administrative science at Wichita State University. From 1955 to 1959 he studied philosophy and theology at St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary in Denver. On May 19, 1959, he was ordained a priest for the diocese of Wichita. He held various offices in the diocesan administration, including that of the chancellor of the diocese.

Pope Paul VI appointed him Bishop of Dodge City on October 16, 1976 . The Bishop of Wichita, David Monas Maloney , the same year donated him on 14 December, the episcopal ordination ; Co-consecrators were Marion Francis Forst , auxiliary bishop in Kansas City, Kansas , and Richard Charles Patrick Hanifen , auxiliary bishop in Denver .

He was named bishop of Wichita on November 17, 1982, and inducted into office on February 9 of the next year. John Paul II . accepted his early resignation on October 4, 2001
