Located in the USA , the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown ( Latin : Dioecesis Altunensis-Johnstoniensis ) was established on May 30, 1901 from areas of the dioceses of Pittsburgh and Harrisburg as the Diocese of Altoona and, as a suffragan, belongs to the ecclesiastical province of Philadelphia .

In 1950 there were still 135,377 Catholics (21.9% of the total population) in 111 parishes with 132 diocesan priests , 99 religious priests and 73 religious sisters, the diocese changed its name on October 9, 1957 to the current form. Until 2002, the 17,279 km² diocese comprised 112,426 Catholics (17.4%) in 100 parishes with 143 diocesan priests, 62 religious priests, 29 deacons and 87 religious sisters.

It now includes the areas of Bedford , Blair , Cambria , Center , Clinton , Fulton , Huntingdon and Somerset Counties .
