The Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland ( lat. : Dioecesis Clevelandensis ) is in the United States located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Cleveland , Ohio .

history

The Diocese of Cleveland was on April 23, 1847 by Pope Pius IX. established from cessions of territory by the diocese of Cincinnati . On April 15, 1910, the Diocese of Cleveland gave parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Toledo . Another assignment of territory took place on May 15, 1943 to establish the Diocese of Youngstown . The Diocese of Cleveland is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Cincinnati as a suffragan .
