history
The diocese of Laredo was established on July 3, 2000 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Solliciti de maiore from cessions of territory from the Archdiocese of San Antonio and the Diocese of Corpus Christi and subordinated to the Archdiocese of San Antonio as a suffragan . First bishop was James Anthony Tamayo .
