The Diocese of Amarillo ( Latin : Dioecesis Amarillensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese located in Texas in the United States , with its seat in Amarillo . It includes the Texas Panhandle in northern Texas.

history

Pope Pius XI founded it with the Apostolic Constitution Pastoris aeterni on August 3, 1926 from cessions of territory of the Diocese of Dallas and the Archdiocese of San Antonio , to which it was also subordinated as a suffragan diocese.

On October 16, 1961 and March 25, 1983, it lost parts of its territory to the Diocese of San Angelo and Diocese of Lubbock .
