John Louis Morkovsky

John Louis Morkovsky (born August 16, 1909 in Praha , Texas , † March 24, 1990 ) was an American Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Galveston-Houston .

Life

John Louis Morkovský received on 5 December 1933 the archpriest of the Lateran Basilica , Francesco Cardinal Marchetti Selvaggiani that ordination to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of San Antonio .

Pope Pius XII appointed him on December 22, 1955 titular bishop of Hieron and auxiliary bishop in Amarillo . The Apostolic Delegate in the United States , Amleto Giovanni Cicognani , ordained him episcopally on February 22 of the following year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Corpus Christi , Mariano Simon Garriga , and the Bishop of El Paso , Sidney Matthew Metzger .

On August 18, 1958, he was appointed Bishop of Amarillo.

Pope John XXIII appointed him on April 16, 1963 Coadjutor Bishop of Galveston-Houston and Titular Bishop of Tigava . He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.

With the resignation of Bishop Wendelin Joseph Nolds on April 22, 1975, he followed this as Bishop of Galveston-Houston. On August 21, 1984, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
