The Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo ( Latin Dioecesis Buffalensis , English Diocese of Buffalo ) is a in the United States located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Buffalo , New York .

history

The diocese Buffalo was on April 23, 1847 by Pope Pius IX. Erected from territory ceded by the Diocese of New York and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Baltimore as a suffragan . On July 19, 1850, the Buffalo Diocese was subordinated to the Archdiocese of New York as a suffragan. The bishopric of Buffalo gave on March 3, 1868 parts of its territory from the establishment of the bishopric of Rochester . In 1896 the bishopric of Buffalo gave parts of its territory to the bishopric of Rochester.
