Henry Joseph Mansell (born October 10, 1937 in New York City ) is an American Roman Catholic clergyman and retired Archbishop of Hartford .

Life

Henry Joseph Mansell was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of New York on December 19, 1962 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in New York and titular bishop of Marazanae on November 24, 1992 . The Pope personally donated him episcopal ordination on January 6 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were Giovanni Battista Re , substitute for the State Secretariat , and Justin Francis Rigali , secretary of the Congregation for Bishops .

He was named Bishop of Buffalo on April 18, 1995, and inducted into the office on June 12 of that year. He was named Archbishop of Hartford on February 20, 2003, and inducted into office on December 18 of the same year.

In 2012, Mansell reprimanded the Catholic priest Michael DeVito from the small town of Suffield, Connecticut, for attending the wedding of a same-sex couple .

On October 29, 2013, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
