Edward Bernard Scharfenberger (born May 29, 1948 in Brooklyn , USA ) is an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Albany .

Life

Edward Scharfenberger received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Brooklyn on July 2, 1973 .

On February 11, 2014, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Albany. He was ordained episcopal on April 10th of that year by the Archbishop of New York , Cardinal Timothy Dolan . Co- consecrators were his predecessor Howard James Hubbard and the Bishop of Brooklyn, Nicholas Anthony DiMarzio .

Pope Francis appointed him consultor to the Commission on Religious Relations with Judaism on July 1, 2019 .

Since December 4, 2019, he has been Apostolic Administrator of the Buffalo Diocese .
