The Archdiocese of Oklahoma City ( Latin : Archidioecesis Oklahomapolitana ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church based in Oklahoma City in the US state of Oklahoma .

It started in the 179.391 km² large Apostolic Prefecture Indian Territory , which was established on May 14, 1876 and on May 29, 1891 was elevated to a Vicariate Apostolic . Raised to the Diocese of Oklahoma on August 23, 1905 and subordinated to the Archdiocese of San Antonio , the diocese changed its name to Oklahoma City-Tulsa on November 14, 1930. On December 13, 1972, Tulsa was separated with 68.394 km² as an independent diocese and Oklahoma City became an archbishopric and metropolitan seat .
