The Diocese of Lafayette ( lat. : Dioecesis Lafayettensis ) is in the United States located Roman Catholic diocese , based in Lafayette .

It was built on January 11, 1918 from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of New Orleans and subordinated to this as a suffragan . The Diocese of Lafayette gave on January 29, 1980 territories establishing the Diocese of Lake Charles .
