John Douglas Deshotel (born January 6, 1952 in Basile , United States ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman and Bishop of Lafayette .

Life

The former bishop of Lafayette, Maurice Schexnayder , ordained him on May 13, 1978 as a priest .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on March 11, 2010 auxiliary bishop in Dallas and titular bishop of Cova . The Bishop of Dallas, Kevin Joseph Farrell , gave him on April 27 of that year, the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were Michael Gerard Duca , Bishop of Shreveport , and Charles Victor Grahmann , Bishop Emeritus of Dallas.

He was Vicar General of the Diocese of Dallas since 2008 .

On February 17, 2016, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Lafayette . The inauguration took place on April 15 of the same year.
