John Aloysius Duffy
John Aloysius Duffy (born October 29, 1884 in Jersey City , New Jersey , USA , † September 27, 1944 in Buffalo ) was Bishop of Buffalo .
Life
John Aloysius Duffy received on 13 June 1908, the sacrament of Holy Orders . Duffy became vicar in Our Lady of Grace parish in Hoboken and professor of literature and languages at Seton Hall University in South Orange . He was also a professor of church history at the seminary of Newark . Subsequently, John Aloysius Duffy became Chancellor and Vicar General of the Diocese of Newark . He was also given the honorary title conferred by a papal house prelate.
On April 21, 1933, Pope Pius XI appointed him . to the Bishop of Syracuse . The Bishop of Newark, Thomas Joseph Walsh , ordained him episcopal on June 29 of that year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Springfield, Illinois , James Aloysius Griffin , and the Bishop of Nashville , Alphonse John Smith . On January 5, 1937, Pius XI appointed him. to the Bishop of Buffalo. The inauguration took place on April 14th of the same year.
