Alphonse John Smith

Alphonse John Smith (born November 14, 1883 in Madison , Indiana , USA ; † December 16, 1935 in Nashville , Tennessee ) was Bishop of Nashville .

Life

Alphonse John Smith received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Indianapolis on April 18, 1908 in Rome . He received his doctorate in the subjects of Catholic theology and canon law .

On December 23, 1923, Pope Pius XI appointed him . to the Bishop of Nashville. The Bishop of Indianapolis, Joseph Chartrand , donated to him on 25 March 1924 in the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Indianapolis the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Corpus Christi , Emmanuel Boleslaus Ledvina , and the Bishop of Toledo , Samuel Stritch .

Alphonse John Smith planted numerous new schools and parishes in the Nashville Diocese. He also had the Poor Clares Monastery built in Memphis .
