Augustus John Schwertner (born December 23, 1870 in Canton , Ohio , USA ; † October 2, 1939 in Wichita , Kansas , USA ) was Bishop of Wichita .

Life

Augustus John Schwertner received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Cleveland on June 12, 1897 through Bishop Ignatius Frederick Horstmann . On April 15, 1910 he was incardinated in the diocese of Toledo, which was established on that day .

On March 10, 1921, Pope Benedict XV appointed him . to the Bishop of Wichita. The bishop of Toledo, Joseph Schrembs , donated him episcopal ordination on June 8 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Detroit , Michael James Gallagher , and the Bishop of Denver , John Henry Tihen . On June 22, 1921, he was inaugurated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Wichita, Kansas.
