Michael James Gallagher

Michael James Gallagher (born November 18, 1866 in Auburn , † January 20, 1937 in Detroit ) is an American bishop of the Roman Catholic Church .

He was ordained a priest for the Grand Rapids diocese on March 19, 1893 . On July 5, 1915, Pope Benedict XV appointed him coadjutor bishop of Grand Rapids and titular bishop of Tipasa . Henry Joseph Richter , Bishop of Grand Rapids, ordained him bishop on September 8, 1915 . Co- consecrators were Joseph Schrembs , Bishop of Toledo , and Edward Denis Kelly , Auxiliary Bishop in Detroit . On December 26, 1916, he succeeded Richter as Bishop of Grand Rapids after the death of Richter. On July 18, 1918, Pope Benedict XV appointed him. him Bishop of Detroit. On November 18, 1918, he was enthroned as bishop.
