Dennis Marion Schnurr (born June 21, 1948 in Sheldon , Iowa , USA ) is Archbishop of Cincinnati .

Life

Dennis Marion Schnurr received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Sioux City on July 20, 1974 . There he worked in the diocesan administration until 1985, among other things as financial director (1980–1985). From 1989 to 1995 Schnurr was general secretary of the Bishops' Conference of the United States .

On 18 January 2001 appointed him Pope John Paul II. The bishop of Duluth . Archbishop of Saint Paul and Minneapolis , Harry J. Flynn , ordained him episcopal on April 2 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop Emeritus of Sioux City, Lawrence Donald Soens , and the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo Higuera . On October 17, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to Coadjutor Archbishop of Cincinnati. The inauguration took place on December 7th of the same year. Dennis Marion Schnurr became Archbishop of Cincinnati on December 21, 2009, succeeding Daniel Edward Pilarczyk , who resigned for reasons of age.

In an interview with John L. Allen in June 2010, Schnurr spoke out in favor of speaking more of the teaching of Christ in the Catholic Church instead of “of the teaching of Rome”. He also criticized the media's definition of a “good bishop”.
