John L. Allen, Jr. (* 1965 ) is an American journalist for CNN and NPR specializing in the Roman Catholic Church and the Vatican .

biography

Allen grew up in the US state of Kansas in the town of Hays (Kansas) . Allen went to school until 1983 in the Thomas More Prep Marian School, which is run by the Order of the Capuchins .

He then studied at Fort Hays State University and graduated with a master's degree in religious studies from the University of Kansas . Allen taught journalism and worked on The Knight student newspaper at Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks , California . Allen also worked for the National Catholic Reporter (NCR) magazine.

While reporting on the death of John Paul II , Allen appeared regularly on the news channel CNN , where he now works as a specialist and analyst on the Vatican . Allen also gives lectures on the same topic.

John Allen lives in Rome with his wife Shannon .
