The FC Frauenfeld is a Swiss football club from Frauenfeld in Thurgau . The club currently plays in the 2nd interregional league , the fifth highest division of the Swiss Football Association .
history
Little is known about the beginnings of football in Frauenfeld.
The Swiss Football Association (SFA, later SFV) was affiliated with the FC der Kantonsschule Frauenfeld in 1898, which was founded in 1896 and had 25 players at the time. Another club was founded in 1906 under the name FC Kurzdorf.
In 1910, FC Frauenfeld was created through the merger of FC Kurzdorf with FC der Kantonsschule. In the following years, the merged club took part in the Eastern Swiss Championship of the Serie B (at that time the second highest division in Switzerland) and fought for top positions several times.
In the first Swiss Cup , FC Frauenfeld defeated FC Chiasso , who had previously played in the Italian premier league , 3-2. In the next round, however, the Frauenfelder had no chance and conceded against Nordstern Basel with 17: 1 one of the highest defeats in the club's history.
In the 1965/1966 season, FC Frauenfeld was promoted to the first division and in the 1977/1978 season they were group champions. In the subsequent relegation games they were able to prevail and celebrate promotion to National League B, which they belonged to for four seasons, before relegation to the 1st division followed in 1981/1982.
In 1980 the club reached the quarter-finals of the Swiss Cup and lost this game against Servette FC Genève 2-0.
In the 1985/1986 season, the relegation to the 2nd division, which had been emerging for a long time, followed, but a year later, under the new coach, he was promoted again.
