The soccer club Linth 04 is a soccer club from the municipality of Glarus Nord ( Switzerland ). The first team is currently playing in the first division .

history

FC Linth 04 is a football club from Glarnerland . FC Linth 04 was created in 2004 from the merger of the two clubs, FC Näfels and FC Niederurnen (founded in 1933), based in the municipality of Glarus Nord .

The club colors are yellow / black.

FC Linth 04 currently plays in the first division . The second team is active in the 2nd regional division.

Since it was founded, FC Linth 04 has made a name for itself as a cup team. They have already made it into the 2nd cup round three times (in the 2019/2020 season even into the 3rd cup round) after they each won a club from the Challenge League ( FC Gossau , FC Wohlen and FC Schaffhausen ). They were then drawn to a team from the Super League ( FC Luzern , FC St. Gallen and FC Sion ). The club from Glarus Nord lost the first trade fair against a representative of the Super League with 1: 4 against FC Luzern (2009/2010 season). The defeat in the second round of the Cup in the 2017/2018 season, when FC St. Gallen was only able to leave the field as the winner in the penalty shoot-out, was particularly narrow. In the 2019/2020 season, FC Linth 04 even made the advance into the second round of the Cup. In the pouring rain in Buchholz in Glarus, 2,700 spectators watched the game against Super League representative FC Sion as the players from Glarus Nord lost 2-0 in an extremely unfortunate way (Pajtim Kasami didn't score the second goal until 95. Minute into the empty goal, as the goalkeeper hurried forward so that you could create an outnumbered situation with a corner).

The first season in the 1st league (2018/2019) finished the Glarus in 9th place. You were never in danger of relegation throughout the season, which as a promoted player from the 2nd Interregional League is not a matter of course.

The first team of FC Linth 04 has never been relegated in its history. When the club was founded in 2004 , both active teams of FC Näfels and FC Niederurnen were in the 3rd division. Since then, FC Linth 04 has always been able to keep the class, or has been promoted.

FC Linth 04 have always played in yellow and black jerseys since the club was founded. For the 2019/2020 season, the jersey color changed to orange, as the jersey sponsor has an orange logo.

Sports facilities

The first team of FC Linth 04 plays its games in Näfels on the Lintharena SGU sports facility. The sports facility in Näfels has a total of three playing fields, one of which is artificial turf . On the grounds of the Lintharena SGU, FC Linth 04 has a clubhouse in several containers that are built together and a grill cart. A bicycle shelter serves as rain protection for spectators in bad weather. There is no grandstand in Näfels. Only in the two cup games against the NLA clubs (Super League) FC Luzern (October 18, 2009) and FC St. Gallen (September 17, 2017) did FC Linth 04 build additional temporary stands. In Niederurnen , FC Linth 04 has a clubhouse with a huge glass front, from where you can watch the games in bad weather, similar to a VIP box. In Niederurnen there are two grass pitches, of which the main pitch (where the clubhouse is located) also has a stone grandstand. The cup game (1/8 final) on October 30, 2019 against the Super League Club FC Sion was played in Glarus on the Buchholz sports complex, as the infrastructure in Näfels, as in Niederurnen, was a floodlit game (the game took place on a Wednesday evening) including sports coverage on Swiss television.
