William Edward McManus

William Edward McManus (born January 27, 1914 in Chicago , † March 3, 1997 ) was an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Fort Wayne-South Bend .

Life

William Edward McManus received on 15 April 1939 by the Archbishop of Chicago , George William Cardinal Mundelein , the sacrament of Holy Orders .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on June 11, 1967 titular bishop of Mesarfelta and auxiliary bishop in Chicago . The episcopal ordination donated him the Archbishop of Chicago, John Patrick Cardinal Cody on August 24th of the same year; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Madison , Cletus Francis O'Donnell , and Aloysius John Wycislo , Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago.

On August 24, 1976, Pope Paul VI appointed him. to the Bishop of Fort Wayne-South Bend . The ceremonial inauguration ( enthronement ) took place on October 19 of the same year.

Pope John Paul II accepted his early resignation on February 18, 1985.
