Leo Aloysius Pursley

Leo Aloysius Pursley (born March 12, 1902 in Hartford City , Indiana , † November 15, 1998 ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Fort Wayne-South Bend .

Life

Leo Aloysius Pursley received on 11 June 1927, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

Pope Pius XII appointed him on July 18, 1950 titular bishop of Hadrianopolis in Pisidia and auxiliary bishop in Fort Wayne . He was ordained episcopal by the Apostolic Delegate in the United States, Archbishop Amleto Giovanni Cicognani on September 19 of the same year; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Fort Wayne, John Francis Noll , and Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Mary Marling of Kansas City .

On February 21, 1955, Pope Pius XII appointed him. as Apostolic Administrator of Fort Wayne. After the death of John Francis Noll, the Pope appointed him Bishop of Fort Wayne on December 29, 1956. The inauguration followed on February 26 of the following year. The diocese of Fort Wayne was renamed the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend on May 28, 1960.

Pursley attended all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.

Pope Paul VI accepted Pursley's resignation on August 24, 1976.
