Barranca de Metlac is through the Río Metlac shaped canyon near the Mexican town of Fortin de las Flores in the state of Veracruz .

The canyon, which is up to 115 meters deep and whose cloud forest is home to trees up to 40 meters high, is spanned by four bridges.

Two of them are railway bridges. The older one, known as Puente de San Miguel , was built in 1873, is 135 meters long and weighs around 600 tons. It is part of the first railway line in the history of Mexico. The newer railroad bridge, known as Puente de Metlac , is the tallest railroad bridge in North America. It is 131 meters high and 90 meters long.
