Aloysius John Wycislo
Aloysius John Wycislo (born June 17, 1908 in Chicago , Illinois , † October 11, 2005 in Green Bay , Wisconsin ) was an American clergyman and Catholic bishop of Green Bay .
Life
Aloysius John Wycislo studied at the Seminary in Mundelein and at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC on April 4, 1934, he was from Chicago's archbishop , Cardinal George Mundelein , for priests ordained.
During the Second World War , Wycislo was responsible for setting up reception camps for war refugees in India, Africa and the Middle East. In 1946 he became director of Catholic Refugee Aid and coordinated relief operations in Europe from New York City .
Pope John XXIII appointed Wycislo on October 17, 1960 titular bishop of Stadia and auxiliary bishop in Chicago. He received his episcopal ordination on December 21, 1960 from Cardinal Albert Gregory Meyer . Co- consecrators were Bishops William Aloysius O'Connor of Springfield and Ernest John Primeau of Manchester .
As a council father , Aloysius John Wycislo participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council .
On March 8, 1968, Pope Paul VI appointed Wycislo as the eighth bishop of Green Bay. As diocesan bishop he implemented the decisions of the council and established the permanent diaconate . He installed facilities for family counseling, promoted the scout movement and organized pastoral care for young people, the deaf and the disabled. He stayed true to his previous area of responsibility by supporting refugees and migrants, including Vietnamese , Laotians and Hispanics .
On May 10, 1983, Wycislo's age-related resignation was accepted. When he died in 2005, he was 97 years old, the oldest bishop in the United States.
