John Michael D'Arcy
John Michael D'Arcy (born August 18, 1932 in Boston , Massachusetts , † February 3, 2013 in Fort Wayne , Indiana ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Fort Wayne-South Bend .
Life
After graduating from Boston College High School, John Michael D'Arcy attended Saint John's Seminary in his birthplace from 1949 . After studying philosophy and theology , he was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Boston on February 2, 1957 . From 1965 to 1968 he completed a doctoral degree in theology at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas . From 1968 to 1985 he was spiritual and professor of spiritual theology at Saint John's Seminary and pastor in Beverly, Massachusetts.
Pope Paul VI appointed him on December 30, 1974 Titular Bishop of Mediana and Auxiliary Bishop in Boston . He received his episcopal ordination on February 11, 1975, the Archbishop of Boston, Humberto Sousa Cardinal Medeiros ; Co-consecrators were the Boston auxiliary bishops, Lawrence Joseph Riley and Thomas Joseph Riley .
On February 18, 1985, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Fort Wayne-South Bend. The ceremonial inauguration ( enthronement ) took place on May 1st of the same year. Pope Benedict XVI On November 14, 2009, he accepted his resignation due to reasons of age.
