Kevin Carl Rhoades (born November 26, 1957 in Mahanoy City , Pennsylvania ) is a Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Fort Wayne-South Bend .

Life

Rhoades spent his school days in Lebanon , where he attended Lebanon Catholic High School . Rhoades studied Roman Catholic theology and philosophy at Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg , Maryland for two years , after which he moved to St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood , Pennsylvania . From 1979 to 1983 he studied in Rome at the Pontifical North American College of the Pontifical Gregorian University . On April 22, 1982 Rhoades was ordained a deacon by the Archbishop of New York , Terence James Cardinal Cooke and on July 9, 1983 by Auxiliary Bishop William Henry Keeler as a priest of the Diocese of Harrisburg .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Harrisburg on October 14, 2004. He received his episcopal ordination on December 9, 2004 from the Archbishop of Philadelphia , Justin Francis Cardinal Rigali . Co- consecrators were William Henry Keeler, now Archbishop of Baltimore and Cardinal , and the Bishop of Phoenix , Thomas James Olmsted . His motto is: Veritatem In Caritate (Ephesians 4:15).

Pope Benedict XVI appointed Rhoades bishop of Fort Wayne-South Bend on November 14, 2009 . The inauguration followed on January 13 of the next year.
