Joseph Patrick McFadden (born May 22, 1947 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † May 2, 2013 in Harrisburg , Pennsylvania) was an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Harrisburg .

Life

Joseph McFadden attended Our Lady of Lourdes Elementary School from 1953 to 1961 and the St. Thomas More High School for Boys from 1961 to 1965 . After high school , he first studied political science at Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia, where he received his bachelor's degree in 1969 . McFadden was now teaching at West Catholic Boys High School . In 1976 he entered the seminary St. Charles Borromeo Seminary one. The Archbishop of Philadelphia , Cardinal John Joseph Krol , ordained him a priest on May 16, 1981 . In June 1981 he became Vicar of St. Laurence Parish in Highland Park . From 1982 to 1993 he was secretary to John Joseph Krol. Pope John Paul II awarded him the title of Papal Honorary Prelate in 1991 . In 1993 he became the founding president of Cardinal O'Hara High School in Springfield. Eight years later he assumed the parish office of St. Joseph's parish in Downingtown.

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Philadelphia and titular bishop of Horreomargum on June 8, 2004 . The Archbishop of Philadelphia, Justin Francis Cardinal Rigali , donated him episcopal ordination on July 28 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops Robert Patrick Maginnis and Michael Francis Burbidge .

On June 22, 2010 he was by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Bishop of Harrisburg and inducted into office on August 18 of the same year.
